Colorectal Cancer is treatable, beatable and preventable.

Colorectal Cancer at-a-glance:

  • Colorectal Cancer is #2 leading cause of cancer deaths among American Indian Men and Women in the U.S.
  • 90% of new Colorectal Cancer cases occur in adults 50 or over.
  • There are over 1 Million Colorectal Cancer survivors in the United States.

Colorectal Cancer Symptoms: (Many people experience no symptoms)

  1. Blood in stool.
  2. Change in stool.
  3. Abdominal pain or discomfort.
  4. Constipation of diarrhea.
  5. Unintended weight loss.
  6. Weakness or fatigue.

Colorectal Cancer often causes no symptoms. That’s why receiving routine yearly screenings is so important.

March is Colorectal Awareness Month

Screening Colorectal Recommendations:

  • People with risk factors should start as early as age 45.
  • A strong family history of cancer.
  • Past polyps with Colonoscopy.

Recommended Colorectal Cancer Screening Tests:

  • Stool based tests – FIT use antibodies in the stool to detect blood in stool, it is done once a year.

Colonoscopy:

  • Starting at age 50 and every 10 years depending on findings of polyps.
